Director of Music

Leslie Olive is our Director of Music. He also fills this role with The English Arts Chorale and the Eye Bach Choir, and is the Artistic Director of the Reigate Summer Music Festival, which he founded. He has conducted choirs and orchestras in the UK and abroad, including the Royal Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players.

A Music Director at the BBC for four years, Leslie Olive is Head of Music at Colchester Royal Grammar School, one of the Country’s highest-achieving schools, where he also directs an energetic young choir of some eighty boys. This outstanding young choir joined Stowmarket Chorale and Eye Bach Choir at Snape Maltings for the Karl Jenkins concert in April 2009.

Accompanist

Our Accompanist is William Fergusson - a pianist who not only brings a great musical depth to rehearsals, but who can stand in for an entire orchestra in concerts. After education at Woodbridge School, he studied Performance and Composition at UEA. He gives recitals throughout the region and is a prolific composer who has recently made a CD of his own work.

About us

Stowmarket Chorale is an ambitious choir of over ninety members, which rehearses in Stowmarket on Wednesday evenings between September and July.

The choir usually gives three concerts a year. Karl Jenkins' Armed Man, A Mass for Peace, together with his Requiem, was performed at Snape Maltings in April 2009, and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and Violin Concerto at St Edmundsbury Cathedral in June, ending the year with a Carol Concert, also featuring Stowmarket Concert Band, in December.

This year started with our Messiah for Haiti
benefit concert in February, and the well-attended Mozart concert in March at Bury - Clarinet Concerto and Requiem. The next concert included Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast at Snape Maltings in July. These events, as well as an additional programme, are featured on the Gallery page.

Deatails of the forthcoming season's programme with biographies and pictures of individual artists, and descriptions of the music, will shortly be on the Future Concerts page.
